One day, as the young men gathered in their secret place, they spoke earnestly of their concerns. They knew the time was approaching when the king would hear of their faith, and the repercussions would be severe. “Our people,” one of them said, “worship idols that neither hear nor respond. They cannot offer help or guidance. They are merely lifeless stones. We cannot live as they do.”

His companions nodded in agreement, each feeling an inner conviction that this path was correct, despite the risks. They prayed quietly, seeking Allah’s guidance. However, it wasn’t long before the news of their rebellion against idolatry reached the ears of the tyrant king. Furious that someone would dare defy his laws, he ordered his guards to capture these young men and bring them to his court.

In the grand hall, the king demanded that the young men abandon their belief in Allah and return to worshiping the idols of the land. But they remained steadfast, proclaiming their belief openly. “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth,” they said. “We will not worship anyone besides Him.”

Infuriated by their courage, the king threatened them with severe punishment if they didn’t renounce their faith. But their conviction was unshaken. Seeing that the king would not relent, the young men made a plan to flee the city. They gathered what little they could carry and escaped into the wilderness, seeking a safe haven where they could worship Allah in peace.

After a long journey, they reached a secluded cave in the hills, hidden from the city’s watchful eyes. As they took refuge in the cave, they prayed together: “Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us to a straight path.” They hoped for safety and peace, but they could not have known the miraculous plan Allah had for them.

As they rested in the cave, Allah placed them into a deep, tranquil sleep that would last for centuries. Through His divine will, their bodies turned from one side to the other to prevent decay, while their faithful dog lay at the cave’s entrance, protecting them. The dog’s presence discouraged anyone who might stumble upon them from entering the cave.

Outside, seasons changed, years turned into decades, and the world evolved around them. Kingdoms rose and fell, generations passed, and the oppressive king who once sought to punish them had long been forgotten. The people of the land had since embraced monotheism, with the idea of Allah as the one true God taking root.

After an extraordinary period of around 300 years, Allah willed the young men to awaken. They opened their eyes, unaware of the miracle that had taken place. Disoriented, one of them asked, “How long have we slept?”

Another companion responded, “A day, or perhaps part of a day.” They debated, unsure of how much time had passed. Hunger reminded them of the need for sustenance, so they decided to send one among them to buy food from the city. They handed him some silver coins from before their flight, reminding him to be discreet, still fearing that the city might pose danger.

As the young man made his way into the city, he noticed many changes. The streets and buildings were unfamiliar, and the people’s demeanor seemed different. However, he proceeded cautiously, approaching a merchant and offering his coins in exchange for food.

The merchant, upon seeing the ancient coins, was astonished. He scrutinized the young man, wondering how he possessed such relics. Word quickly spread, and the young man was brought before the city’s authorities. When he explained who he was, the city leaders were stunned. They realized this was one of the legendary young men who had disappeared long ago—a group that, according to local lore, had fled to a cave to preserve their faith.

The city leaders, along with a crowd of townspeople, eagerly followed the young man to the cave, hoping to see the others and hear their story. When they arrived, they found the other Companions, who were equally bewildered by the change in the world around them.

In this miraculous turn of events, the Companions of the Cave understood that Allah had preserved them as a sign for humankind. They had left behind a society steeped in idolatry, and they awoke to find a community that worshipped Allah alone. This was not only a testament to their faith but a divine message for all generations to come.

After meeting the people of the city and sharing their story, the Companions of the Cave eventually returned to the cave, where Allah took their souls in a peaceful sleep. They had served their purpose, bearing witness to the power of unwavering faith, and Allah granted them an honorable end.
