Prophet Nuh and the Great Flood Story |
In a world that had slowly forgotten the guidance of Allah, society was corrupted and lost in ignorance. Generations passed since the time of Adam, and as they drifted away from the path of righteousness, they began worshipping idols. Prophet Nuh (Noah), a man of great faith, was chosen by Allah to bring His message back to the people, guiding them to the straight path and calling them to worship only Allah.
Nuh was not an ordinary man. He had a heart filled with compassion and patience, and he was deeply troubled by the darkness that shrouded his people’s hearts. They had fallen so far from the worship of Allah that they had constructed idols and statues in remembrance of their pious ancestors, but over time, they began worshipping the idols themselves. False beliefs spread like wildfire, and the people of Nuh were completely engulfed in their idol worship.
Allah, in His mercy, chose Nuh to be the messenger to these people. Nuh took on this task with an earnest heart, feeling a profound sense of responsibility. He knew his mission was not easy, but he was determined to bring his people back to the worship of Allah.
With courage and unwavering faith, Nuh began his mission. He went to the marketplaces, called out in the streets, and spoke to people wherever he could find them. He addressed them with kindness and patience, explaining the wonders of Allah’s creation and urging them to leave their false idols behind.
“O my people!” he would say. “Worship Allah alone! There is no god but He! Will you not heed the warning?” Nuh would speak to them for hours, pleading with them to repent and warning them of the consequences of their stubbornness.
But the people of Nuh were arrogant and stubborn. They scoffed at him and dismissed his words. The wealthy and powerful among them mocked him openly, saying, “Who are you to tell us what to do? We have our idols, and we will continue worshipping them as our ancestors did.”
Nuh’s persistence did not waver. Day and night, in private and in public, he continued his mission. He knew Allah’s guidance was priceless, and he was willing to bear whatever hardship was necessary to fulfill his duty. The people laughed at him, ridiculed him, and even plotted to harm him, but Nuh held firm.
At one point, he realized that he would have to reach out to every individual. He tried speaking to the young and old, the rich and the poor, hoping to plant even a small seed of truth in their hearts. But every time he spoke, the people only grew more obstinate.
The leaders of his people sneered and told him, “Nuh, you are only a human like us. If Allah wanted to send a message, He would have sent angels. Besides, we see that only the poor and weak follow you. Why should we believe in you?”
Years turned into decades, and Prophet Nuh continued calling his people to Allah. In his frustration, he turned to Allah in prayer, asking for guidance. “O my Lord, I have called to my people night and day, but my call has only increased their flight from the truth. And whenever I call them, they put their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments.”
With a heart heavy with sorrow, Nuh realized that his people would not change. Yet, he continued his mission with the hope that even one person might accept the message. Allah saw Nuh’s sincerity and dedication, and He comforted him, instructing him to carry on.
Then, after 950 years of preaching, Nuh saw the sad reality: only a few humble souls had truly believed. With a heart filled with sorrow, Nuh turned to Allah again, and this time he asked, “My Lord, leave not upon the earth a single soul from among the disbelievers, for they will only lead others astray and give birth to sinful offspring.”
Allah accepted Nuh’s prayer and commanded him to build an ark. This command seemed peculiar, as there were no signs of rain or flood, and his people’s land was far from any sea. But Nuh obeyed Allah’s command without hesitation, gathering wood, tools, and the small group of believers to help him with the construction.
As they worked, Nuh’s people mocked him even more. “Look at him!” they jeered. “The prophet who has lost his mind! Building a boat on dry land. Is this your salvation, Nuh?”
Nuh did not respond to their taunts, focusing instead on his work. Slowly, the ark took shape, its size massive enough to hold many pairs of animals and those who believed in Allah’s warning. When the ark was finally complete, Allah commanded Nuh to gather a pair of each animal species, male and female, along with the believers.
Soon, Allah’s punishment began to manifest. Dark clouds gathered, thunder roared, and heavy rains poured down from the heavens. The earth trembled, and water gushed from the ground, flooding the land. The flood was unlike anything the people had ever seen, overwhelming everything in its path. Prophet Nuh and the believers hurried aboard the ark, leaving behind those who had rejected Allah’s message.
As the waters rose, Nuh saw his own son standing outside the ark. He called out, “My son, come aboard with us and do not be among the disbelievers!” But his son, stubborn and arrogant, shouted back, “I will seek refuge on a mountain to protect me from the flood!”

Nuh replied with sorrow, “There is no refuge from Allah’s decree today except for those to whom He has shown mercy!”
As Nuh watched helplessly, a massive wave came between them, and his son was swept away.
The ark sailed for days and nights, the floodwaters submerging mountains and valleys alike. The disbelievers, who had once scoffed at Nuh’s warnings, were drowned, while the believers in the ark were kept safe by Allah’s mercy. Finally, when Allah’s decree was fulfilled, the rain stopped, and the waters began to recede. The ark came to rest on Mount Judi, and Allah commanded the earth and skies to swallow the waters. The flood subsided, and the believers set foot on land once again.
Nuh, filled with gratitude, offered prayers to Allah. He and the survivors began anew, pledging to uphold Allah’s commandments and avoid the mistakes of those who had perished. Prophet Nuh’s mission, filled with perseverance and faith, became a timeless lesson for all of humanity. Allah had shown that patience and trust in His wisdom are rewarded, while arrogance and disbelief ultimately lead to destruction.
